Mistaken identity

When Nick moved to Lechlade he would stay with me at my home in Ealing when he made his annual pilgrimage to the Ealing Beer Festival each July.  We would start our drinking in the mid afternoon and finish off at 10.30 sharp - there was a strict curfew. After an alcoholic nightcap we would retire for the night.  On one occasion he got up in the morning and greeted 'my wife' Sally in our kitchen. Unfortunately he was actually addressing my daughter - some 36 years younger than my wife. My daughter was not best pleased but took it in good heart. I am not sure if this mistaken identity was because of Nick's failing eyesight or because he was still full of real ale from the previous day's drinking. Thinking about it, it was probably a bit of both
