My name is Joanna French. I have never met Nick in person, but we conversered frequently over Ancestry. He was , as we noted, my 8th cousin through the winding road that lead back to the 1700's and a common Crook ancestor. As you probably know, he wrote well, and I soon got a sense of his personality. I live in Canada and for a time lived in Ottawa so we had a couple of things in common.
Today as I was looking something up in my tree, I went to his tree on Ancestry and found to my shock that he had passed away. It was such a strange feeling of sorrow and loss that I experienced while looking at his memories and then his service and burial. I so enjoyed his comments and also his generosity is helping me with my own search. just wanted his partner and friend to know that even faraway in frosty Canada, I missed knowing that he was there at the other end of the ancestry line, to ask a question and get a friendly learned anwer. I am so sorry,
Joanna French , Canada 8th cousin

I am so sad to hear that Nick passed away early this year. We have been in touch for many years now, either by telephone or e-mail, and always planned to meet but never did. We collaborated on the "Weaver Family Tree" and it was always a pleasure to hear his voice on the other end of the telephone, he will be sadly missed by me and and everyone else in the family history circle. My thoughts and very best wishes go to all of his family and friends.

It is only today, the 20th of December 2021, that I have been informed of the passing of Nick Waloff. He will be sorely missed.
I never got to meet Nick during the several years I have conversed by email with him, Jean Williams and others who made up the 'Weaver Clan' that he spent hundreds of hours researching.
He always kept us up to date with his advances in his research and, at times, I was glad to help with funds or whatever.
Our (Weaver) Family Tree has been researched back to the mid 17th Century [Last issue = 53a, November 2018] and I hope that we can continue Nicks' work with further research in the future.
RIP Nick, old friend.
